Favorite Freebies
Here is a list of some great programs that are available as a free download.
Firefox:
At the top of the list is the browser that has taken the internet by storm over the last couple years. It has some neat features - like tabbed browsing, popup blocker, and there are dozens of plugins available to extend the functionality of this must have program. People like Firefox so much, that Microsoft even included many of it's features in their new version of IE.
Available from Mozilla.com
some of my favorite plugins for Firefox are: ForcastFox, Netcraft Toolbar, Webdeveloper Toolbar, and StumbleUpon.
Thunderbird:
Mozilla's email client program. It has a very good built in junk mail filter.
Also available from Mozilla.com
Avast Home:
The home version of avast antivirus.
Available from Alwil Software.
Core FTP Lite:
A full featured FTP program.
Available at www.coreftp.com.
Spybot Search & Destroy:
Powerful yet easy to use spyware removal tool.
Available at safer-networking
Audacity:
An audio editing and recording utility with many cool features.
Available at Sourceforge
Open Office:
Replacement for Microsoft Office, includes a word processor, spreadsheet program, and presentation creator.
Available at OpenOffice.Org
Linux:
Why not just replace Windows altogether? Then you can stop worrying about a virus or spyware bringing your machine to a halt, and you'll never see that Blue Screen of Death again (unless you use the BSOD screensaver as a gag). There are many flavors of Linux to choose from - my personal favorite is Fedora. Other popular builds are Ubuntu and Suse.

I will be adding to this list as time permits, so check back from time to time for updates.
